Lunar New Year

Tomorrow, February 10, is the Chinese New Year! And although we are not Chinese, nor Asian, we still love to celebrate this holiday in little ways.

Fortune Cookies

After writing our own fortunes, we followed a simple fortune cookie recipe like this one from allrecipes.com.  Even though they are simple to make, unfortunately shaping the cookies is not a very kid friendly process.  The cookies must be molded as soon as they come out of the oven, so they are way too hot to be handled by children.

 Candy Sushi

Another sweet treat we tried was candy sushi made from:

Rice Krispie Treats

Rainbow Twizzlers

Fruit Roll-Ups

After whipping up a batch of Rice Krispie Treats, we rolled them into logs with a Rainbow Twizzler tucked inside.

We then wrapped our sushi with Fruit Roll-Ups to cover the outside.

We sliced them into sections with a sharp knife.

I am not sure if the girls had more fun eating them or trying to pick them up with chopsticks!

How will we welcome the Year of the Snake... you will have to wait until tomorrow to find out!
